Cradle Developing Children’s Talents

The Pyongyang Students and Children´s Palace is standing on the Jangdae Hill which overlooks the blue limpid water of the River Taedong and picturesque Pyongyang.

The Pyongyang Students and Children´s Palace is an extracurricular educational centre for schoolchildren and comprehensive school for providing students with ample knowledge, high morality and physical strength. Schoolchildren in Pyongyang City are realizing their hope and developing talents to their hearts´ content in different circle rooms of the large palace. The vocal music circle draws many children.

Children receive guidance in the circle after school as they wish.

Teacher Kim Myong Sun has this to say:

“The great leader Kim Il Sung who loved children and devoted his whole life to the bright future of the country, took measures to build a palace for the children after liberation. Afterwards, the palace under construction was destroyed in the war forced by the US imperialists, and after the war he took measures to build a larger and more magnificent palace than the destroyed one before anything else. As a result, the Pyongyang Students and Children´s Palace was inaugurated on September 30, Juche 52 or 1963.”

Since then children learned and sang in the palace envying nothing in the world under the increasingly warm love of the great Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. Today, too, the teachers of the palace keep developing new teaching methods to improve the abilities of the children, combining collective education with individual guidance in conformity with the characteristics of extracurricular education of children different in age, level, grade and progress of curricula.

The teacher continues:

“Our vocal music circle ceaselessly develops new teaching methods to let many children understand the demands and principles of Juche-based vocalism and guides their rehearsal. Many children of different ages with instinctive taste for singing are fully developing their talents.”

The teachers help children sing naturally, softly and beautifully. Thanks to their constant pursuit and efforts, the children´s abilities improve remarkably. The merits of vocal music circle are well proved by the number of children who distinguished themselves in the National Vocal and Instrumental Solo Contests of Schoolchildren. Many graduates from the circle play an important role at reputed art organizations including the State Merited Chorus, the Mansudae Art Troupe and the Phibada Opera Troupe. Many famous singers including Choe Sam Suk loved by the people are graduates from the vocal music circle.

Circle member Kim Ye Yong has this to say:

“I love songs very much. When I was little, I dreamed of being a singer, seeing the vocalist brothers and sisters loved by the people across the country. I have learned a lot, studying vocal music for 5 years in this circle. In the future, I will study vocal music harder and become a singer loved by the people.”
