Kim Jong Il Makes Literature and Art Helpful to Songun Politics

[nggallery id=77]The literature and art, created thanks to the guidance of leader Kim Jong Il in the era of Songun (military-first), is considered a treasure in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. In his lifetime, he paid deep attention to making the literature and art serve the Songun politics.

He authored a number of celebrated works to indicate the orientation and ways for the development of the literature and art in the Songun era, urging the Korean People’s Army to take the lead in the creation of Songun culture.

In the period of the Arduous March, the forced march, he saw to it that the State Merited Chorus was organized, which played a big role in inspiring the servicepersons and civilians to follow the Songun politics.

Art performances full of the revolutionary soldier spirit were given at various levels, including art festivals of KPA servicepersons and performances by art groups of servicemen’s families and itinerant art squads of industrial establishments.

The grand gymnastic and artistic performance “Arirang”, a winner of Kim Il Sung Prize, was created as a monumental masterpiece in the new century and art performance “The Blue Sky over My Country”, given by the State Merited Chorus, Korean People’s Army Song and Dance Ensemble, Mansudae Art Troupe, Phibada Opera Troupe and other leading troupes, deeply moved local people.

Feature films “Heritage”, “Notes of a Woman Soldier” and “In Military Service” and light comedies “Promise”, “Letter” and “Echo of Mountain” were produced to represent the Korean people’s spirit of devotedly defending their leader and carrying out his instructions to the last.

The “October Concert”, given by the Unhasu Orchestra and the Samjion Band of the Mansudae Art Troupe, was an example in music and art in the Songun era.

Performances of art squads of ministries and national institutions and national art festivals of workers and peasants gave a glimpse of the development of mass-based art in the country.

The National Symphony Orchestra created piano concerto “Ode to Comrade

Kim Jong Il”, orchestral music “General on a Galloping White Horse” and orchestral music and chorus “The Snow Is Falling”.
