Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army, visited Farm 1116 under KPA Unit 810.
He was accompanied by senior officials including Choe Ryong Hae, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, vice-chairman of the DPRK SAC and vice-chairman of the WPK Central Committee.
After his inspection of the farm in September last year, he took measures to rebuild the farm’s institute into a cutting edge agricultural science research centre and add a modern greenhouse to the farm. And he also ensured that a nearby farm was transformed into a pilot base of the farm and a contingent of discharged soldiers were assigned to it.
True to his intention the officials and employees of the unit and farm with the help of soldier builders have built a modern institute, greenhouse and dwelling houses and cultivated seeds of high-yielding varieties in a short period of time.
The Supreme Leader viewed crops of high-yielding varieties including “Phyongok 9”, “dry-field rice 24” and a hybrid of sorghum and maize before looking round the newly built institute.
With an area of over 3 890 square metres, the three-store institute has well-equipped labs for bioengineering and cultivation, pedigree storage room, scientific debate room, showroom and service facilities.
Making the rounds of the institute, he appreciated the construction, saying that the institute befits a latest agricultural science research centre and design and engineering are perfect and flawless.
He made his way to the new greenhouse, fields for testing and cultivating crops and other places in turn to acquaint himself with the breeding and cultivation.
He was delighted to see paddy and dry-field rices, sorghum-maize hybrid, black maize and sugar reed growing in the greenhouse. And he was satisfied with a newly tested vegetable crop that has proved to be unbelievably high in productivity and nutritive value, and named it “Tanbaekcho” which means a vegetable rich in protein.
The farm officials and employees have cultivated high-yielding varieties of crops, which meet the physiographical features of the country lacking arable land and can generate a high and safe output with higher resistance to blight and shorter growth period, he said, adding that they have fully demonstrated the validity and vitality of the Party’s policy on bringing about a revolution in seed production that is critical to farming. He stressed the need for other units to learn after their experience.
And he specified important tasks to be tackled by the farm.
