Workers’ Dormitory has been built at the Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Textile Mill in Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People´s Republic of Korea. The dormitory was built at state expense thanks to measures of the government to provide workers with convenience in their everyday life on the highest level. It has three 7-story buildings abreast. The outer walls decorated with tiles of fresh colors are in good harmony with the picturesque River Taedong.
Each room accommodates 7 persons. It has geothermal heating system and there are wardrobe, bookcase, television set and other furniture and fixtures and telephone in each room. The halls of corridors on each floor are convenient for the lodgers to enjoy a cultural life.
The dining hall which can accommodate hundreds of persons at a time looks like a banquet hall. The cuisine is also perfect and wonderful. It is fully equipped with all kitchen facilities such as depositories of cold and hot dishes, tableware disinfector and washer, electric baker´s oven, ice-maker, rice cake-maker and rice-washing machine. The bathhouses underground at Buildings Nos. 1 and 3 have dry and wet saunas and individual shower rooms.
The beauty parlor which provides hairdressing and face treatment is one of the public service amenities favored by all lodgers. The cozy shops in the same buildings sell different kinds of foodstuffs and articles for cultural use.
Nice park and volleyball court are in the compound of the dormitory, which can relieve fatigue of workers after a day´s work. The inside and outside of the dormitory are really smart.
Weaver Kang Jin Hyang says:
“This marvellous house is our workers´ dormitory. When we come back from our work, comfortable beds and delicious foods are waiting for us. The library, beauty parlour, clinic and all other service facilities are waiting for us. We have nothing inconvenient under the state benefits.”
Weaver Paek Hyang Ok has this to say:
“We are away from our parents. But we feel at home with mother´s love. The state benefits for the workers are the crystallization of mother´s affection and love.”
The Workers´ Dormitory is lovely home of the workers.
